We’ve been keeping track on some exciting developments taking place in Cape Town – from the Foreshore and the Athlone Power Station to the unfinished highway in the CBD.
Tsogo Sun Hotel
The Tulip Hotel, which was demolished in February this year, is set to become the Tsogo Sun Hotel Complex. This slick, 200-room SunSquare hotel and a 300-room StayEasy hotel, will include conference facilities, shops, parking and dining areas catering for Cape Town’s booming tourism trade.
State-of-the-art Train Station
Exciting news for commuters! Cape Town Station is enjoying a revamp and will reopen to commuters in only a few months’ time after a R126m upgrade. The refurbished section will feature state-of-the-art design and technology, including one-way escalators, ticket offices at both ends and speed gates. This will make commuting around town a pleasure whilst reducing traffic congestion on our roads.
Urban Legend to Urban Park?
Rumour has it that the iconic unfinished highway is going to become an urban park, complete with ramps and a parking lot at one end. The City of Cape Town recently allowed the CTICC to start building, but long term plans for the removal/refurbishment will only be decided by the end of the year. Watch this space!
Remember the Athlone towers? Demolished five years ago, the City of Cape Town and the World Bank are in talks to work on a development strategy for the Athlone Power Station site. The site will house a mixed-use development plan including residential, commercial, retail and public facilities. A great opportunity for business and the neighbouring community!
These are just a few of the key projects that are gaining momentum in the Mother City. Look out for more developments from CFC scaffolding – keeping you informed and in touch with the city’s urban landscape.
