CFC proudly helps construct the new Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital

Driving onto the N1 highway, just passed the CTICC, you may have noticed the site for the new, state of the art, Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. This impressive luxury complex is set for completion in 2016 and will incorporate 250-bed wards, theatres, doctors’ surgeries and consulting rooms, linked retail, a gym and a structured parking facility of over 50 000 sqm.

The new hospital is being built on the piece of land formerly used as a parking area by Media24, between the Artscape Theatre and the CTICC. CFC recently reported on the CTICC’s expansion plans, which will result in an iconic convention centre within the redeveloped Foreshore precinct, comprising of 10 000 sqm of retail space, a hospital, hotel and an office tower.

The current hospital opened in 1984 (then called City Park), the same year Colin Poole and Jerry West put a dream into action and went into partnership to build CFC. It was then renamed after South Africa’s most famous surgeon, Christiaan Barnard, in November 2001.

We are proud of the integral part we’ve played in shaping and building the city’s urban landscape for over 30 years and look forward to the opening of this iconic structure.
